Company background

The University of Nottingham was founded in 1948, and is ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide. In 2000 the university became international when it opened its first overseas campus—the Malaysia Campus. In 2004 the university also became the first foreign university to establish an independent campus in China, which now offers over eight academic divisions, around 400 administrative and teaching staff, and over 5,000 students from more than 40 countries. To ensure they provide the best facilities to students, teachers and visitors, the University of Nottingham has decided to improve their campuses by upgrading their current vending options and adding to their portfolio.

The Discovery

The University of Nottingham decided to upgrade their machines to include touch screens and more standout branding, to appeal to their existing and future student base. It was also key that the machines offered sustainability; allowing customers to vend hot drinks using their own cups, as well as ensuring cashless systems were in place throughout. The machines also operate with LED lighting, and when not in use they switch to energy saving mode. Another important factor with this client was vending machine location, in order to provide an alternative to waiting in long cafeteria queues and offer additional convenience alongside their current catering offerings. As a leading university, it was key that the solution we provided met these innovative requirements.

The Challenge

The University of Nottingham wanted to find a vending company that not only understood their requirements, but also offered a partnership approach with a commitment to service, quality and sustainability. This, alongside our commitment to provide all new machines, helped the university choose LTT for all of their current and future vending needs.

The Solution

LTT Vending were able to deliver multiple solutions to the university including combi, hot drinks and cold drinks machines throughout their campuses. The first set of machines were installed at Ancaster Hall in early December, and the remaining 80 machines were installed, filled and ready for use two weeks later. The new machines look really attractive and offer premium products, which the University of Nottingham are proud to showcase to potential future students and staff.

The Result

The University of Nottingham is really pleased with the solutions provided, all machines have been a hit with students with many commenting on the new, exciting and modern branding. Christopher Jarram, the University’s Retail Operations Manager, also commented “the service provided by LTT has been second to none! From the beginning stages of choosing the new machines and updated branding right through to the mobilisation plan, our Account Manager – Rohit Manani – has gone above and beyond. Installing the machines has also enabled us to increase profit and protect costs as offering silent salesmen (vending machines) allows for little to no labour costs. It’s been a great experience overall and I can’t wait to see further results!”
